Members of the Al-Ulamau Support Group for Tinubu\/Shettima (ASGAT) gathered in Surulere, Lagos, to commemorate the Islamic New Year, Hijrah 1448, with special prayers for Nigeria\u2019s peace, stability, and political progress.<\/p>\n
The event, held at the A Plus Resource Centre, Adefowope Street, Coker-Aguda, also featured prayers for the success of All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections, particularly Hon. Lanre Okunlola, who is aspiring to represent Surulere Federal Constituency II in the House of Representatives, and Barr. Damilola Ayinde Mashal, a contender for the Lagos State House of Assembly seat in Constituency II.<\/span><\/p>\n Delivering a sermon during the gathering, Imam Abdulganiyu Idris urged Nigerians to embrace the teachings of Islam and uphold moral values, stressing that many of the nation\u2019s challenges stem from a departure from the path ordained by Allah.<\/span><\/p>\n He noted that disregard for divine guidance often results in hardship, insecurity, and social instability, adding that leaders at all levels of government must govern with sincerity, justice, and the fear of God.<\/span><\/p>\n The cleric further charged elected officials to remain committed to the promises made to the electorate, while calling on the National Assembly and the Executive to work together in the overall interest of the nation.<\/span><\/p>\n Drawing lessons from Chapter 16, Verse 112 of the Holy Qur\u2019an, Imam Idris reminded public office holders that positions of authority are temporary and should be used to serve humanity selflessly.<\/span><\/p>\n Speaking at the programme, ASGAT National Coordinator, Alhaji Lateef Agboola, expressed confidence in the future of the APC and encouraged members of the group to remain steadfast and committed despite political setbacks experienced in the past.<\/span><\/p>\n According to him, active participation in politics remains essential for Muslims who desire meaningful representation and inclusion in governance.<\/span><\/p>\n Agboola also urged members to intensify voter mobilisation efforts by encouraging eligible Nigerians to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and actively participate in the democratic process during the 2027 elections.<\/span><\/p>\n Representing the Damilola Campaign Organisation (DAMCO), Ahmed Azeez commended ASGAT for its consistency and loyalty to the APC since its formation ahead of the 2023 elections.<\/span><\/p>\n He assured members that the group would play a significant role in the campaign activities of Barr.
