The signing of the amended Electoral Act marks another step in efforts to enhance the integrity and efficiency of Nigeria\u2019s electoral system.<\/span><\/p>\n Announcing the development, President Tinubu said the amendments are designed to improve electoral procedures, close identified gaps, and provide greater clarity for stakeholders involved in the conduct of elections.<\/span><\/p>\n According to the President, every election cycle presents an opportunity for reflection and reform. He stressed that serious democracies must continually review their systems to ensure that laws evolve in line with experience and emerging realities.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThese amendments are not about politics. They are about process,\u201d he stated, explaining that the reforms aim to enhance transparency, credibility, and public trust in the electoral system.<\/span><\/p>\n President Tinubu emphasised the importance of building citizens\u2019 confidence in the electoral process, noting that voters must approach polling units assured that their votes will count and that declared results will be credible.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWhen citizens walk into a polling unit, they must do so with confidence. When results are declared, they must be trusted. That confidence is built deliberately, and not by chance,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n The President commended the National Assembly for its cooperation and sense of national responsibility in concluding the legislative process that led to the amendments.
