The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) on Saturday, 24 January 2026, concluded its highly anticipated Annual General Conference (AGC) with resounding success.<\/p>\n
Delegates from across Nigeria converged on Maridom Palace Hotel, Ogun State, united in their resolve to revitalise the organisation and reposition it for greater impact.<\/p>\n
The conference underscored the enduring legacy of Comrade Debo Adeniran, National President of CDHR, whose resilience, commitment, and diligence have continued to sustain the organisation\u2019s relevance over the years. Under his leadership, CDHR has remained steadfast in promoting human rights, democracy, and social justice.<\/p>\n
The AGC featured the election of a new set of national executives, with Debo Adeniran re-elected as President. Other officers elected include Godwin Anyebe as Vice President, Deji Adebowale as General Secretary, alongside other dedicated members who will steer the affairs of the organisation in the new tenure.<\/p>\n
The conference was marked by a strong sense of unity and purpose, as members from diverse backgrounds came together to chart a progressive course for the organisation. The event reaffirmed CDHR\u2019s unwavering commitment to its core values and its resolve to remain a beacon of hope for the marginalised and oppressed.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the conference, Olasupo Ojo, a renowned legal practitioner and former President of CDHR, expressed delight at the impressive turnout of members. He urged participants to intensify efforts in educating Nigerians about their rights.<\/p>\n
According to him, a society that is ignorant of its rights under the law remains vulnerable to abuse and exploitation.<\/p>\n
\u201cI would have missed something I can never regain in life if I had failed to honour this invitation. For the first time in a long while, I am seeing familiar faces\u2014committed compatriots in the struggle\u2014coming together under one roof to chart a positive course for our country.<\/p>\n
\u201cI urge us to persevere in human rights education across our branches, to spread knowledge of people\u2019s rights so that sanity and justice can prevail in our nation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
As CDHR begins a new chapter, it is evident that Adeniran\u2019s leadership will continue to guide the organisation\u2019s progress.
