{"id":25415,"date":"2025-11-12T16:57:14","date_gmt":"2025-11-12T16:57:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/?p=25415"},"modified":"2025-11-12T16:59:23","modified_gmt":"2025-11-12T16:59:23","slug":"subsidy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/?p=25415","title":{"rendered":"Yuletide Season: Sanwo-Olu Expands Ounje Eko Farmers\u2019 Subsidy Programme to Sustain Food Production"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The Lagos State Government has announced the commencement of Phase II of the <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Ounje Eko Farmers\u2019 Subsidy Programme<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, an agricultural intervention aimed at sustaining food production, empowering farmers, and stabilizing food prices across the state ahead of the festive season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Ms. Abisola Olusanya<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, made the announcement during a press briefing in Lagos on Tuesday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-18415 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/402c7b4b-1f6f-480b-b2c2-f556660887a6-300x200.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Olusanya said the initiative, introduced by the administration of <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, was designed to cushion the impact of rising production costs, particularly in the poultry and fishery sectors, where feed expenses account for over 70 percent of total production costs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">She noted that the first phase of the programme, launched earlier in the year, recorded significant success, benefiting over <\/span><span class=\"s1\">5,000 farmers<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, supplying <\/span><span class=\"s1\">993.3 metric tons of poultry feed<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> and <\/span><span class=\"s1\">265.65 metric tons of fish feed<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, sustaining the production of <\/span><span class=\"s1\">258,000-layer birds<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, and yielding over <\/span><span class=\"s1\">7 million eggs<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> and <\/span><span class=\"s1\">177,100 catfish<\/span><span class=\"s2\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-18417 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/548be43c-ec08-45c8-b8c0-87b3e5b8fca6-300x200.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The intervention, she added, also helped reduce the price of eggs from \u20a66,000 to between \u20a65,000 and \u20a65,400 per crate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201cBuilding on this success, Governor Sanwo-Olu has approved the implementation of the second phase, expanding its reach and scope to provide greater impact across various value chains,\u201d the Commissioner said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Under the new phase, farmers will benefit from a <\/span><span class=\"s1\">25% discount on poultry and fish feeds<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, including layer mash, broiler feed, and various fish feed sizes ranging from 2mm to 6mm.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-18418 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/0c170f01-844c-4e0e-b3fe-3f8207cada6a-300x200.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The programme also includes the <\/span><span class=\"s1\">free distribution of grains to pig farmers<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> and <\/span><span class=\"s1\">fertilizer to crop farmers<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, as well as the provision of <\/span><span class=\"s1\">agricultural equipment and inputs<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> to crop farming clusters across Lagos State to enhance mechanization and reduce manual labour.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Equipment to be distributed include power tillers, mini tractors, fish smoking kilns, sprayers, planters, generators, and other essential farm tools. In addition, farmers will receive a <\/span><span class=\"s1\">25% subsidy on Eko Agro Mechanization Services<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, while government extension agents will continue to provide training and technical support to ensure improved productivity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The subsidy programme will begin on <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Wednesday, November 19, 2025<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, across <\/span><span class=\"s1\">10 designated centres statewide<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, including Agege, Epe, Badagry, Ikorodu, Ojo, Ajah, Ipaja, Mosan, and Ibeju-Lekki.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-18419 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/2426f981-38a8-46d4-892c-bab2fcd9ed6e-300x200.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Participation will be limited to registered and recognized farmer associations such as the <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Poultry Association of Nigeria (Lagos Chapter)<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, the <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Lagos State Catfish Allied Farmers Association of Nigeria (LASCAFAN)<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, and other estate and settlement groups to ensure transparency and accountability.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Olusanya disclosed that the ministry would continue to partner with <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Providus Bank<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> and <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Zenith Bank<\/span><span class=\"s2\">for financial transparency and accountability in managing the programme\u2019s funds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">She added that the ministry is also collaborating with top feed producers such as <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Animal Care Services Konsult<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Olam Agri<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, and <\/span><span class=\"s1\">New Hope Feeds Nigeria<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, whose involvement guarantees quality assurance, smooth distribution, and steady supply of feeds to farmers across the state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201cThese partnerships form the backbone of the Ounje Eko Farmers\u2019 Subsidy Programme, guaranteeing efficiency, accountability, and consistent delivery of support to farmers,\u201d she stated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">To complement the farmer-focused support, the Lagos State Government will also offer a <\/span><span class=\"s1\">25% discount on essential food items<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> at the <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Lagos Fresh Food Hub, Mushin<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, throughout the festive season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Items available at subsidized rates include rice, beans, garri, bread, tomatoes, pepper, onions, smoked fish, frozen chicken, palm oil, vegetable oil, semovita, and assorted fruits.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">According to Olusanya, the initiative will enable residents to celebrate the festive season with affordable food while complementing the government\u2019s broader food system goals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The Commissioner further announced that the <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Lagos Agrinnovation Summit 2.0<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> will hold on <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Thursday, November 13, 2025<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, at Harbour Point, Victoria Island.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The summit will convene policymakers, investors, entrepreneurs, and young agripreneurs to discuss innovations shaping Lagos\u2019 agricultural sector.
