{"id":25325,"date":"2025-10-29T06:40:13","date_gmt":"2025-10-29T06:40:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/?p=25325"},"modified":"2025-10-29T06:41:21","modified_gmt":"2025-10-29T06:41:21","slug":"nigeria-determined-to-end-tb-by-2030-first-lady-oluremi-tinubu-declares-at-global-health-summit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/?p=25325","title":{"rendered":"Nigeria Determined to End TB by 2030 \u2014 First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Declares at Global Health Summit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">Nigeria\u2019s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has reaffirmed the country\u2019s commitment to end tuberculosis (TB) by the year 2030, stressing that the sustainability of Nigeria\u2019s TB response cannot rely solely on external assistance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Speaking as the Special Guest of Honour at the <\/span><span class=\"s1\">39th Stop TB Partnership Board Meeting<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> held in <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Manila, Philippines<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, Mrs. Tinubu said Nigeria has recorded significant progress in TB detection and treatment through leadership, community engagement, and strategic national coordination.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201cDespite temporary shifts in support from some financing partners, Nigeria\u2019s fight against TB has remained strong. The number of people diagnosed and treated for TB in 2025 did not decline, which reflects the strength of country ownership and the commitment of Nigerians who continue to drive this response forward,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s2\">The First Lady told over 180 participants from 47 countries that Nigeria is deliberately working to reduce its dependence on donor funding by building resilient systems capable of sustaining progress even during unexpected challenges.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s2\">Highlighting the global burden of the disease, Mrs. Tinubu noted that tuberculosis remains the world\u2019s biggest infectious killer, claiming about 1.3 million lives annually.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201cIn Nigeria, we are among the eight countries that account for two-thirds of global TB cases, with an estimated 479,000 Nigerians developing TB in 2023 and more than 150,000 deaths recorded. These are not just numbers; they represent mothers, fathers, sons, and daughters whose lives compel us to act with urgency and compassion,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s2\">She reaffirmed that Nigeria\u2019s resolve to end TB aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu\u2019s <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Renewed Hope Agenda<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, adding that achieving this goal requires stronger political commitment and full community participation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201cAs the First Lady of Nigeria and as a Global and National Stop TB Champion, I reaffirm Nigeria\u2019s determination to end TB by 2030,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s2\">Mrs. Tinubu commended the <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, its agencies, and the <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Stop TB Partnership<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> for their dedication and transparency in ensuring that all resources mobilized for TB testing, diagnosis, and treatment are used effectively.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s2\">The <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Chairman of the Stop TB Partnership Board<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> and <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Secretary of Health of the Philippines<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Teodoro Herbosa<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, described TB as a development challenge that requires sustained innovation and determination.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201cArtificial Intelligence and innovative technologies must be deployed to improve testing, detection, and treatment of TB if we are to win this fight effectively.
