As Nigeria inches closer to the 2027 general elections, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Fuoad Oki, has warned that the polls will determine the nation\u2019s political direction and democratic stability for years to come.<\/p>\n
Speaking during an interactive session with journalists in Ikeja, Lagos, tagged <\/span>\u201cSpeaking the Truth to Power: 2027 in Retrospect,\u201d<\/span> Oki said the outcome of the 2027 elections would \u201cmake or mar\u201d Nigeria, adding that the choice of candidates, rather than political parties, would shape voter decisions.<\/span><\/p>\n The APC stalwart projected that Lagos State would record about 3.5 million valid votes in 2027 despite having close to six million registered voters. He expressed optimism that electoral fraud would be drastically reduced if the ongoing amendment making the use of BVAS compulsory and mandating same-day voting across the country is approved.<\/span><\/p>\n Oki further stated that President Bola Tinubu\u2019s performance ahead of 2027 will be critical to the APC\u2019s electoral fortunes, warning that those around the President must stop shielding him from the realities facing Nigerians.<\/span><\/p>\n He urged Tinubu to \u201ccleanse the Villa\u201d by removing aides and advisers who promote anti-people policies or mislead him with sycophantic advice. According to him, the President must remain focused on rebuilding the nation and fulfilling his campaign promises.<\/span><\/p>\n The APC leader stressed that if Tinubu does not seek re-election, it could take another 40 years before someone of Yoruba extraction returns to power.
