{"id":24925,"date":"2025-08-15T12:39:17","date_gmt":"2025-08-15T12:39:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/?p=24925"},"modified":"2025-08-15T12:39:17","modified_gmt":"2025-08-15T12:39:17","slug":"fg-to-link-baro-inland-port-to-lagos-kano-rail-for-economic-boost","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/?p=24925","title":{"rendered":"FG to Link Baro Inland Port to Lagos\u2013Kano Rail for Economic Boost"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The Federal Government has unveiled plans to connect the Baro Inland Port in Niger State to the Lagos\u2013Kano narrow-gauge rail line as part of efforts to revitalise the port and improve the movement of goods across the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Minister of Transportation, Senator Said Ahmed Alkali, disclosed this in Abuja during an interactive session with the House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee on the Rehabilitation and Operationalisation of the Baro Inland Port.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Alkali explained that following the creation of the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, the planning, development, and management of the Baro Inland Port now fall under that ministry, with the Nigerian Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) managing it as a national asset.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201cNotwithstanding the above reality, the Ministry of Transportation has a critical role in the operations of the Baro Inland Port through the effective execution of the ongoing rehabilitation of the 190km old narrow-gauge rail from Minna to Baro,\u201d Alkali said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">According to him, the rail line will be linked to the rehabilitated Lagos\u2013Kano narrow gauge for freight movement. \u201cThe route has been put into use, although operations were recently interrupted by the Mokwa flood incident,\u201d he added, appealing to the National Assembly to allocate funds for the project\u2019s completion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Earlier, Chairman of the Committee, Hon.
