{"id":23450,"date":"2025-04-18T20:05:16","date_gmt":"2025-04-18T20:05:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/?p=23450"},"modified":"2025-04-18T20:13:03","modified_gmt":"2025-04-18T20:13:03","slug":"southwest-joins-free-to-shine-triple-elimination-campaign-as-first-lady-oluremi-tinubu-flags-off-regional-launch-in-akure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/?p=23450","title":{"rendered":"Southwest Joins \u2018Free To Shine\u2019 Triple Elimination Campaign as Oluremi Tinubu Flags Off Regional Launch in Akure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The Southwest geopolitical zone has become the fifth region in Nigeria to join the <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Free To Shine Triple Elimination Campaign<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, following the official flag-off by the First Lady of Nigeria, <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Senator Oluremi Tinubu<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, in Akure, the Ondo State capital.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Emphasizing the need to deepen engagement with all stakeholders, the First Lady highlighted the importance of ending the culture of stigmatization against individuals living with or surviving HIV\/AIDS, Syphilis, and Hepatitis.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201cI want to commend members of the Association of People Living with HIV\/AIDS for their testimonies,\u201d Senator Tinubu said. \u201cTheir stories serve as a powerful reminder of resilience and hope, inspiring others living with HIV\/AIDS to seek the support and treatment they deserve with courage and confidence.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">She also expressed appreciation to frontline health workers, the <\/span><span class=\"s1\">National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA)<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, the <\/span><span class=\"s1\">National AIDS and STDs Control Programme (NASCP)<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, research and public health institutions, and global partners for their unwavering support in combatting the three diseases.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201cI specially recognize the <\/span><span class=\"s1\">WHO, UNAIDS, UNICEF, UNDP, PEPFAR,<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> and the <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF)<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, among others,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Senator Tinubu stressed that the <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Triple Elimination Campaign<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, which targets the eradication of <\/span><span class=\"s1\">HIV\/AIDS, Syphilis, and Hepatitis by 2030<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, must be youth-led, as they are the most affected demographic for new infections.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201cTo our dear children and youth, this campaign cannot succeed without your involvement,\u201d she noted. \u201cYou represent our future generation; however, your age group is one of the most vulnerable. Please take care and protect yourselves. We have intensified advocacy through media campaigns across all 36 states and the FCT, and we hope it resonates.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">She also called for greater engagement with traditional and faith-based institutions to address cultural and religious influences on HIV prevention behaviors, especially among those offering birthing services. The goal is to expand access to HIV testing, comprehensive counselling, and treatment for all who test positive.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">In his remarks, the <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Governor of Ondo State<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Dr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, pledged to review the state\u2019s budget to reflect the urgent need for increased healthcare funding, especially in light of recent cuts to global health funding during the Donald Trump administration.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Also speaking, the <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Dr. Iziaq Salako<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, assured that the Federal Government is already addressing requests for free or heavily subsidized liver and kidney function tests and treatment for people living with HIV\/AIDS. Efforts are underway to capture data for those not currently covered by health insurance schemes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">A major highlight of the launch was a powerful <\/span><span class=\"s3\">Ewi<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> (traditional Yoruba poetry) performance by <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Oluwatomilayo<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, promoting positive lifestyles for healthy youth.
