This program, known as <\/span>CHNV<\/span>, was designed to reduce illegal border crossings while offering a structured, vetted process for migrants fleeing hardship. But with Trump suspending the program upon taking office, their future now hangs in the balance.<\/span><\/p>\n

For migrants like <\/span>Mar\u00eda Gonz\u00e1lez<\/span>, a <\/span>Nicaraguan mother of two<\/span>, the news is devastating. She came to the U.S. legally under CHNV, hoping to give her children a future free from violence and economic instability. <\/span>\u201cWe followed every rule,\u201d<\/span> Mar\u00eda says, her voice breaking. <\/span>\u201cWe have work, my kids are in school, and now we are being told to leave? Where do we go?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s a question many are asking. <\/span>How many of these 530,000 migrants have secured another legal status to remain in the U.S.?<\/span> No one knows for sure. With immigration backlogs and policy shifts, the uncertainty is suffocating.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has hinted that some may be allowed to <\/span>stay on a \u201ccase-by-case basis\u201d<\/span>, but no clear guidelines have been provided. <\/span><\/p>\n

Beyond CHNV, Trump\u2019s administration is also reviewing whether to <\/span>end protections for 240,000 Ukrainians<\/span> who fled the war with Russia. Meanwhile, DHS has already announced the <\/span>termination of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 500,000 Haitians<\/span>, a move that has sparked widespread criticism and legal challenges.<\/span><\/p>\n

For many, the heartbreak isn\u2019t just about leaving\u2014it\u2019s about the <\/span>uncertainty of what comes next<\/span>. Some migrants have been in the U.S. for years, contributing to communities, paying taxes, and raising families.<\/span><\/p>\n
