Theresa Ushie<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, over allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Announcing the decision on <\/span><span class=\"s1\">March 20, 2025<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, Council Leader <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Hon. Thompson Inah<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> stated that the chairman\u2019s leadership had stifled development and undermined Governor <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Prince Bassey Otu\u2019s<\/span> <span class=\"s3\">People First<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> agenda.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The councillors accused Ushie, popularly known as the <\/span><span class=\"s3\">Queen of Bekwarra Nation<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, of maladministration, financial misappropriation, and a breakdown in governance. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Specific grievances included a lack of transparency in revenue management, execution of unilateral projects, and alleged physical confrontations involving her and her family members.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Among the most contentious allegations were claims that councillors were denied proper office spaces, salaries were funneled through an inaccessible bank, and <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Christmas palliatives meant for residents were mismanaged<\/span><span class=\"s2\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Despite multiple stakeholder interventions, attempts at reconciliation reportedly failed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The impeachment, signed by <\/span><span class=\"s1\">nine out of ten councillors<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, was executed under the <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Cross River State Local Government Law<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, with a formal notification sent to <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Governor Bassey Otu<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> and <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Acting Governor Rt. Hon. Peter Odey<\/span><span class=\"s2\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Amid the unfolding crisis, the state government has summoned an emergency meeting of political and administrative stakeholders on <\/span><span class=\"s1\">March 24, 2025<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, to discuss the situation. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Meanwhile, the Acting Governor has ordered that the <\/span><span class=\"s3\">status quo before the crisis<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> be maintained, raising uncertainty about the <a href=\"https:\/\/guardian.ng\/features\/education\/fg-approves-budget-for-applied-sciences-varsity-in-kaduna\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">leadership of Bekwarra LGA<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Efforts by <a href=\"https:\/\/guardian.ng\/features\/education\/fg-approves-budget-for-applied-sciences-varsity-in-kaduna\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Guardian online<\/a> to reach <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Hon.
