{"id":22894,"date":"2025-03-19T18:35:46","date_gmt":"2025-03-19T18:35:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/?p=22894"},"modified":"2025-03-19T18:35:46","modified_gmt":"2025-03-19T18:35:46","slug":"court-reverses-order-nullifying-senate-actions-during-natashas-suspension-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/?p=22894","title":{"rendered":"Court Reverses Order Nullifying Senate Actions During Natasha\u2019s Suspension Case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal High Court in Abuja has set aside its previous order that nullified any actions taken by the Senate while Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan\u2019s lawsuit challenging her suspension was pending.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Obiora Egwuatu issued the ruling on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Akpoti-Uduaghan had filed an ex parte motion (FHC\/ABJ\/CS\/384\/2025), naming the Clerk of the National Assembly, the Senate, Senate President, and Senator Neda Imasuem\u2014Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Code of Conduct\u2014as defendants.<\/p>\n<p>On March 4, 2025, Justice Egwuatu granted her motion, barring the defendants from taking further action against her while the case was ongoing.<\/p>\n<p>However, in subsequent proceedings, he directed the defendants to present their defense.<\/p>\n<p>During Wednesday\u2019s hearing, the Senate\u2019s counsel, Chikaosolu Ojukwu (SAN), adopted a motion filed on March 17, seeking to discharge or stay the effect of the court\u2019s March 4 order.<\/p>\n<p>He argued that the court had earlier ruled that any action taken during the pendency of the suit was null and void.<\/p>\n<p>In response, Justice Egwuatu ruled that setting aside the nullification order would not prejudice Akpoti-Uduaghan\u2019s case.
