The United States has announced a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Nigerian national Olalekan Abimbola Olawusi, who is wanted for the alleged murder of his infant child.<\/p>\n
According to a statement by Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Don Freeman, Olawusi is now among the 15 most-wanted fugitives in the U.S.<\/p>\n
Freeman revealed that Olawusi, formerly residing in Rhode Island, was initially charged with first-degree child abuse following an incident on April 3, 2017.<\/p>\n
Authorities found Olawusi\u2019s three-month-old child with severe injuries across 18 parts of his body, including a skull fracture and multiple broken bones, indicating prolonged abuse.<\/p>\n
The infant later died from these injuries after six months on life support, prompting the addition of a murder charge.<\/p>\n
After Olawusi\u2019s arrest and court appearance on April 20, 2017, he was released and later fled the country.<\/p>\n
Investigations indicate he departed the U.S. on June 20, 2017, with assistance from family members in Nigeria.<\/p>\n
Authorities now consider him a potential threat to the public and are committed to bringing him to justice.<\/p>\n
Freeman stated, \u201cOlawusi is wanted for the abuse and murder of an innocent child. We have placed him on our 15 Most Wanted list due to the severity of his crimes and the ongoing threat he poses. The U.S. Marshals Service will use all resources to ensure he faces justice.\u201d<\/p>\n
Olawusi, also known as Olekun Olawusi, is described as 5\u20198\u201d tall, approximately 185 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
