Nigeria\u2019s electricity grid suffered another collapse on Tuesday, plunging multiple cities into darkness.<\/p>\n

The Transmission Company of Nigeria<\/a> (TCN) confirmed the incident in a statement by its General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, noting that the grid experienced a \u201cpartial disturbance\u201d around 1:52 p.m.<\/p>\n

Ms. Mbah explained that the disturbance was caused by multiple line and generator trips, resulting in grid instability.<\/p>\n

According to data from the National Control Centre<\/a> (NCC), however, some parts of the grid remained unaffected by the disruption.<\/p>\n

TCN engineers are currently working to restore power to the affected states, with bulk power supply to Abuja restored at 2:49 p.m.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are gradually restoring supply to other parts of the country and sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this may cause our electricity customers,\u201d Mbah said.<\/p>\n

The Nigerian power sector has faced persistent challenges in recent years, including regulatory uncertainty, gas supply issues, transmission constraints, and shortfalls in sector planning.<\/p>\n

Despite the federal government\u2019s 2013 privatisation of power generation and distribution companies, the grid has continued to experience frequent collapses, highlighting ongoing struggles to stabilize and reform the sector.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
