Loses $2.045M and Eight Properties in Lagos and Delta to Federal Government"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the final forfeiture of $2.045 million and eight prime properties belonging to former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbn.gov.ng\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Central Bank of Nigeria<\/a> (CBN) governor, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Godwin_Emefiele\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Godwin Emefiele<\/a>, to the Federal Government, concluding months of legal proceedings.<\/p>\n<p>The properties, located in Lagos and Delta, along with two share certificates of a company, were allegedly acquired using proceeds from unlawful activities.<\/p>\n<p>In a ruling issued Friday, Justice Deinde Dipeolu decreed the permanent forfeiture after noting that neither Emefiele nor any other party contested the initial interim forfeiture.<\/p>\n<p>The judge ruled that Emefiele failed to provide evidence linking his lawful earnings from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zenithbank.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Zenith Bank<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbn.gov.ng\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">CBN<\/a> to the acquisition of the assets.<\/p>\n<p>Among the forfeited properties are two duplexes at No. 17b Hakeem Odumosu Street, Lekki Phase 1, an undeveloped land parcel at Oyinkan Abayomi Drive in Ikoyi, a bungalow on the same street, a four-bedroom duplex at Probyn Road in Ikoyi, an industrial complex on 22 plots of land in Agbor, Delta State, an apartment complex on Adekunle Lawal Road, Ikoyi, and a full duplex on Bank Road, Ikoyi.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.efcc.gov.ng\/efcc\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">EFCC<\/a> listed several companies, including <a href=\"https:\/\/ng-check.com\/amrash-ventures-limited\/2241265.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Amrash Ventures Limited<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/ng-check.com\/modern-hotels-limited\/571900.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Modern Hotels Limited<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/fidelityexpress.co\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Fidelity Express Services Limited<\/a>, as being associated with the questionable acquisitions.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Dipeolu highlighted the absence of any claim by these companies and remarked that their lack of engagement \u201csuggests there may be something concealed about the acquisition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite opposition from Emefiele\u2019s counsel, Olalekan Ojo (SAN), who requested the court to halt proceedings, the ruling proceeded.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Dipeolu confirmed the assets as \u201creasonably suspected\u201d to be acquired through unlawful means, upholding the EFCC\u2019s claims for the government to permanently assume custody of the funds, properties, and
