{"id":20032,"date":"2024-10-11T20:20:10","date_gmt":"2024-10-11T20:20:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/?p=20032"},"modified":"2024-10-11T20:20:10","modified_gmt":"2024-10-11T20:20:10","slug":"stakeholders-meeting-kehinde-joseph-joins-colleagues-to-address-food-insecurity-in-the-state","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/?p=20032","title":{"rendered":"Stakeholders&#8217; Meeting: Kehinde Joseph Joins Colleagues to Address Food Insecurity in the State"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><b>\u2026Urges Youth to Focus on Urban and Home-Grown Farming<br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>\u2026Launches N50m MSME Empowerment Programme<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In a concerted effort to address the pressing issue of food insecurity in Lagos State, Hon Kehinde Olaide Joseph, representing Alimosho Constituency II, in the Lagos State House of Assembly, joined fellow lawmakers for the ninth annual stakeholders&#8217; meeting, themed: \u2018Ensuring Food Security for Sustainable Future: Youth Participation and Home-Grown Farming\u2019.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This gathering brought together key stakeholders, community leaders, and experts to brainstorm innovative solutions and reaffirm their commitment to boosting food security and sufficiency in the state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Joseph, in his address, emphasized the need for collaboration to address food insecurity, citing it as a complex and multifaceted challenge requiring sustained government and community effort. He underscored the Lagos State House of Assembly&#8217;s unwavering commitment, under the leadership of Rt. Hon (Dr) Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, to achieving food security, aligned with the United Nations&#8217; sustainable development goals, specifically Goal 2: Zero Hunger.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe at the Lagos State House of Assembly, under the leadership of Rt. Hon (Dr) Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, are committed to making Lagos a producing state and not just a consuming state in the agriculture value chain to tackle the present-day reality of food insufficiency.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cOur commitment is exemplified through transformational laws and policy supervision in the agricultural sector,\u201d he said noting that with the collaboration of the Assembly, the government of the state has made giant strides in the agriculture sector.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">He listed some of the agricultural initiatives to include the setting up of the 34-hectare Ikorodu Fish Farm Estate which has the capacity to produce and process 10,000 tons of fish per year partnering with 400 fish farmers in the State.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">He mentioned the AGRIC-YES<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">programme and \u201cthe Oke-Aro and Gberigbe Pig Farm Estates that currently partners with 1,200 farmers and have the capacity of housing and processing 88,000 mature pigs per annum.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cIt is important to reiterate that, on our part as lawmakers,<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>and myself serving as the Chairman, House Committee on Agriculture during that time, we created an enabling<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">environment for farming activities to thrive in the state,<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">particularly through the passage of anti-open grazing of livestock Law in September, 2021.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">He said to achieve food sufficiency, farming capacity needs to be widened while residents should consider animal husbandry.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Joseph, who is serving as the Chairman, Public Account Committee (PAC), urged the youths and constituents at large to engage in urban farming.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cIn Lagos, we are more than 22 million and as a result we have a huge need for food.
