The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Nigeria held its 10th Annual National Conference in Ikoyi, Lagos, under the theme “Building Resilience in Poly-Crisis.” <\/span><\/p>\n

Hon. Kehinde Olaide Joseph, Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Alimosho Constituency II, participated as a panelist in the fireside chat session.<\/span><\/p>\n

He shared his expertise on “Combating Corruption: How Internal Auditors Can Help,” providing valuable insights into the critical role of transparency in government procurement, contracting, and budgeting.<\/span><\/p>\n

As Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Hon. Joseph emphasized the importance of internal audits in ensuring accountability, transparency, and good governance within public sector institutions.<\/span><\/p>\n

He highlighted key initiatives aimed at enhancing internal auditor performance, including implementing robust capacity-building programs, establishing quality assurance and control mechanisms, ensuring independence and objectivity, fostering collaborative relationships with external auditors and anti-corruption agencies, and leveraging cutting-edge technology and data analytics.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hon. Joseph reiterated the need for a comprehensive evaluation of trends in corruption in public services. <\/span><\/p>\n

This includes assessing transparency and accountability mechanisms, evaluating the effectiveness of anti-corruption agencies, examining whistleblower protection policies, analyzing citizen engagement and education in governance processes, and reviewing investigative journalism and media freedom.<\/span><\/p>\n

He stressed the importance of addressing underlying socio-economic factors contributing to corruption, such as poverty reduction, alleviating inequality, improving access to education, and promoting economic empowerment.<\/span><\/p>\n

The conference host, Tolu Odulabe, commended Hon. Joseph’s dedication to promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance in Lagos State. <\/span><\/p>\n

Odulabe noted that Hon. Joseph’s participation demonstrates his commitment to excellence in public service and unwavering support for internal auditing standards and practices.<\/span><\/p>\n
