The Independent National\u00a0 Electoral Commission (INEC) in Katsina\u00a0 state has declared Alhaji Ahmed Babba Kaita of the All Progressives Congress (APC ), as the winner of the bye election conducted in the Katsina North Senatorial District.<\/p>\n
Prof\u00a0 Hudu Ayuba-Abdullahi the returning officer who announced the result at 4:42 am\u00a0 in Daura on Sunday said Kaita, a member of the House of Representatives scored 224,607 votes, while his elder brother and a retired customs officer,\u00a0 Alhaji Kabir Babba Kaita of the Peoples\u00a0 Democratic Party (PDP)\u00a0 scored 59,724 votes<\/p>\n
Abdullahi said the total number of registered voters was 864,046.\u00a0 The number of accredited voters was 308,500.<\/p>\n
According to him, the total votes cast was\u00a0 294,050, out of which\u00a0 287,155 votes were counted as valid\u00a0 and 10,891 rejected.<\/p>\n
The News Agency of Nigeria NAN reports that six political parties contested for the seat, which became vacant after the death of Senator Bukar Mustapha.\u00a0 Apart from the APC and PDP, the other parties that took part in the election were Democratic Alliance (DA),Green Party of Nigeria (GPN),\u00a0 Masses Movement of Nigeria(MMN)\u00a0 and MPN.<\/p>\n
GPN scored 1056, DA\u00a0 796, MPN\u00a0 633 and\u00a0 MMN 343 votes.<\/p>\n
Malam Habibu Suleiman the agent of the PDP who\u00a0 signed\u00a0 the results, as declared alleged some irregularities.<\/p>\n
Katsina North\u00a0 Senatorial District\u00a0 is the home district of President Muhammadu Buhari, now away to London on a\u00a0 vacation.<\/p>\n
The APC candidate defeated the PDP candidate in all the 12 local councils that make up the district.<\/p>\n
