{"id":15875,"date":"2023-10-04T13:34:42","date_gmt":"2023-10-04T13:34:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/?p=15875"},"modified":"2023-10-04T13:34:42","modified_gmt":"2023-10-04T13:34:42","slug":"nigeria-immigration-service-says-all-passport-backlog-has-been-cleared","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/?p=15875","title":{"rendered":"Nigeria Immigration Service Says All Passport Backlog Has Been Cleared"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) is encouraging Nigerians who have applied for International Passports but have not yet collected them to visit the passport offices for collection, as the backlog has been cleared.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Dotun Aridegbe, a Deputy Comptroller of Immigration and the Immigration spokesman shared this information during an exclusive conversation with The Guardian. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">He emphasized,<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> \u201cThe days of passports backlog are now over.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Minister\u2019s directive<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, had issued a directive to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to clear the backlog of over 200,000 pending passport applications within two weeks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">This directive was given during a meeting between the minister and the Acting Comptroller-General of NIS, Caroline Adepoju, shortly after she assumed office in Abuja.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The meeting was also attended by Mr. Yinka Fisher, the Managing Director of Iris Smart Technologies, the firm responsible for producing Nigerian passport booklets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The minister\u2019s order was in line with his commitment to eliminating all obstacles in the process of obtaining Nigerian passports and other immigration documents.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">To fulfil the minister\u2019s directive, the Acting Comptroller General (CG) of Immigration, Mrs. Carol Adepoju Wura-Ola, activated a full-scale implementation team within the NIS hierarchy, which achieved remarkable success.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Call on applicants to collect their passports<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Aridegbe urged,<\/span><span class=\"s3\">\u201dPlease help us tell applicants whose passports are lying in various passport offices across the country to go and collect their passports.
