{"id":14282,"date":"2023-07-12T11:52:42","date_gmt":"2023-07-12T11:52:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/?p=14282"},"modified":"2023-07-12T11:52:42","modified_gmt":"2023-07-12T11:52:42","slug":"eradication-of-fuel-smuggling-might-take-time-nigerian-customs-service","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/?p=14282","title":{"rendered":"Eradication Of Fuel Smuggling Might Take Time, Says Acting Comptroller-general Of The Nigerian Customs Service"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Addressing the issue of fuel smuggling despite the removal of the petrol subsidy, <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Wale Adeniyi, acting comptroller-general of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS),<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> has acknowledged that complete eradication may take time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">He said some border areas have reported seizures of fuel, adding that the rate of smuggling has considerably reduced.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">He expressed hope that ongoing policies being implemented by the current administration would \u201ccompletely\u201d eliminate fuel smuggling across borders.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201cWell, sometimes we just want to assume that because of the subsidy, the problem will evaporate one day. So the sense\u00a0 I was trying to create was that it might take some time before the issue of smuggling of fuel across the border will completely dissipate,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201cSo in some border areas, we had reports of seizures of fuel and that is what we heard. So it was the assumption generally, that because the fuel is now sold at N500 per litre it will be a disincentive for smuggling.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201cBut contrary to that, we have seen that they are smuggling it across the borders.
