The Catholic residents of the Brazilian quarters of Lagos Island hosted its first frej\u00f4n fiesta to mark 2023 Easter celebration.<\/p>\n
Frejon is a coconut milk and bean soup which is eaten especially during Holy Week by a selection of Christians, mostly Catholics, across the world.<\/span><\/p>\n Lagos state Governor\u2019s wife , Dr. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, represented by\u00a0 <\/span>Ms. Ebun Carrena,\u00a0 <\/span>kicked started the distribution of Frej\u00f4n\u00a0 <\/span>to people at Kakawa\u2019s home of Candido Joao Da Rocha ,\u00a0 <\/span>before\u00a0 <\/span>moving to\u00a0 <\/span>Carrena street and other distribution points and finally berthed at Popo Aguda.<\/span><\/p>\n Ms. Carrena accompanied by Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Art & Culture, Pharm. (Mrs.) Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf, said Frejon is popular on Good Friday among Yorubas, who returned to Nigeria from Brazil at the abolition of the slave trade, and settled in what is now known as the \u201cBrazilian Quarters\u201d in Lagos Island.<\/span><\/p>\n She commended the organiser for putting the event together.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThis event triggers the Days of my youth growing up in this area. Thank God we are alive celebrating this Good Friday\u00a0 <\/span>by giving out Frej\u00f4n as it was done in those days.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n She added that Mrs Sanwo-Olu is a true daughter of Popo Aguda of the Brazilian descendant of Carena Family.<\/span><\/p>\n The State\u00a0 <\/span>Commissioner for Tourism, Art & Culture, Pharm. (Mrs.) Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf, while also commending the organiser for the initiative, said \u201cthis is a great initiative by the people of Popo Aguda to celebrate the Good Friday .
