{"id":11699,"date":"2023-02-02T20:09:36","date_gmt":"2023-02-02T20:09:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/?p=11699"},"modified":"2023-02-02T20:14:20","modified_gmt":"2023-02-02T20:14:20","slug":"court-orders-inec-to-accept-labour-party-candidates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/?p=11699","title":{"rendered":"Court Orders INEC To Accept Labour Party Candidates In 24 States"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fhc-ng.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Federal High Court<\/a> sitting in Abuja, on Thursday, ordered the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inecnigeria.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Independent National Electoral Commission<\/a>, INEC, to accept and recognize the nomination of candidates of the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Labour_Party_(Nigeria)\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Labour Party<\/a>, LP, in 24 states of the federation for the forthcoming general elections.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Justice Inyang Ekwo made the order while delivering judgements in different suits that were brought before the court by the party.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The court held that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inecnigeria.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">INEC<\/a> should accept and publish the list of candidates the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Labour_Party_(Nigeria)\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">LP<\/a> submitted to it from the affected states, either manually or through its electronic nomination portal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">It faulted the electoral body which it said violated sections 31, 33 and 36 of the Electoral Act, 2022, when it rejected the list of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Labour_Party_(Nigeria)\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">LP<\/a>\u2019s candidates on the premise that its nomination portal was not functional.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Some of the states affected by the court judgement, are; Kwara, Plateau, Nasarawa, Lagos, Kaduna, Oyo, Benue, Bauchi, Ebonyi and Ekiti States.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Others are; Katsina, Bayelsa, Niger, Rivers, Sokoto, Akwa Ibom, Gombe, Borno, Osun, Adamawa and Cross River.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Thursday, ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to accept and recognize the nomination of candidates of the Labour Party, LP, in 24 states of the federation for the forthcoming general elections.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":11700,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[1034,113,6353],"class_list":["post-11699","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-politics","tag-high-court","tag-inec","tag-labour-party-candidates"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/11699"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=11699"}],"version-history":[{"count":3,"href":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/11699\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":11703,"href":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/11699\/revisions\/11703"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/media\/11700"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=11699"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=11699"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=11699"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
