{"id":10776,"date":"2022-11-18T16:09:49","date_gmt":"2022-11-18T16:09:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/?p=10776"},"modified":"2022-11-18T16:09:49","modified_gmt":"2022-11-18T16:09:49","slug":"first-bank-manager-in-fraud-mess","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/?p=10776","title":{"rendered":"First Bank Manager In Alleged N396.9m Fraud Mess"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">A Deputy Manager of Ghana Branch of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fbnbankghana.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">First Bank Plc<\/a>, Chibuike Clement Kenneth, was today, arraigned before a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fhc-ng.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lagos Federal High Court<\/a>, on alleged offences bordering on conspiracy, fraud of N396, 999, 080 million and money laundering.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.firstbanknigeria.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">First Bank<\/a> Deputy Manager was arraigned before the court presided over alleged offences by the men of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.specialfraudunit.org.ng\/en\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Police Special Fraud Unit<\/a> (PSFU), Ikoyi Lagos.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The prosecutor, I. Iredia, who stood in for Justine Enang, told the court that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.firstbanknigeria.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">first bank<\/a> manager committed the offences alongside others, who are now at large, sometimes in May 2022.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">He was alleged to have fraudulenty obtained the said sum from one Oladipo Okuntola, who trades under the name and style of Aqua 10 Nigeria Limited, with the pretence of giving United States Dollars.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">He was also alleged to have converted the said amount to his personal used and failed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The prosecutor told the court that the alleged crimes, contravened sections 8(a) and punishable under Sectian 1(3) (a) and 2 (1)(a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act No. 14 of 2006.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">He also told the court that the alleged offence is contrary to 15(2)(b) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition Act as Amended 2012)<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The defendant, however denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty to the offences.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">With his not guilty plea, the prosecutor asked the court for a trial date.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Lawyer to the defendant, Barrister Ademola Olabiyi, pleaded with the court to his client to bail in the most liberal term.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Ademola told the court that his client was brought to Nigeria from Ghana, where he works as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.firstbanknigeria.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">First Bank Plc<\/a>\u2019s deputy manager and detained for more than 30 days by the police, despite the rejection of the remand application filed against him by a <a href=\"https:\/\/lagosjudiciary.gov.ng\/ViewDirectories.aspx\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lagos Magistrate Court<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The development he told the court led to the filing of a fundamental rights enforcement suit against the police at a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fhc-ng.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lagos High Court<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">He therefore urged the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The prosecutor however told the court that he leaves the bail issue to court\u2019s discretion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Justice Akintayo Aluko in his ruling, admitted bail to the defendant in the sum of N50 million with two sureties in like sum.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Justice Aluko also ordered that one of the sureties must be a landed property owner within the court\u2019s jurisdisction, while the second surety must be a Grade Level 12 and above of a businessman with an account balance of N100 million.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Justice Aluko also ordered that the sureties must depose to affidavit of means, and other terms.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The judge while ordered that the defendant be remanded in the custody of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.corrections.gov.ng\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nigerian Correctional Services NCoS<\/a> till the perfection of the bail terms, adjourned the matter till February 23, 2023, for commencement of trial.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Deputy Manager of Ghana Branch of First Bank Plc,
