{"id":10573,"date":"2022-10-05T20:09:23","date_gmt":"2022-10-05T20:09:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/?p=10573"},"modified":"2022-10-05T20:09:23","modified_gmt":"2022-10-05T20:09:23","slug":"kogi-state-govt-seals-dangote-cements-factory-over-illegal-takeover-tax-evation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/?p=10573","title":{"rendered":"Kogi State Govt Seals Dangote Cement\u2019s Factory Over Illegal Takeover, Tax Evation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">The Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KGIRS) has sealed Dangote Cement factory in Obajana, Kogi State.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">A staff confirmed the development to POLITICS NIGERIA on Wednesday afternoon, adding that, \u201cin fact, I\u2019m on my way home as we speak\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">This newspaper learnt that the KGIRS\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.facebook.com\/mlctvnews\/videos\/627068089164620\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sealed<\/a>\u00a0the company over tax evasion and acquisition controversy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The action was reportedly backed by the Kogi State House of Assembly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Kingsley Fanwo, the Kogi State Commissioner for Information, was quoted as saying: \u201cPursuant to the Constitutional authorities of the Kogi State House of Assembly, and upon petition by the people of Kogi State, an investigation was carried out on the acquisition of Obajana Cement Company by Dangote Company.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201cIt was found that no valid acquisition took place, as Dangote could not show evidence of what was paid as consideration for the acquisition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201cThe legislators invited the Chairman of the Company, Aliko Dangote, before the house for explanations but he failed to appear before the state assembly, giving excuses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201cThe House of Assembly therefore ordered the closure of the company pending when they are able to present it with credible evidence of a valid acquisition.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">At 16.25Mta capacity across five lines, Dangote\u2019s cement factor at Obajana is the largest of its three factories in Nigeria.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The company is owned by Dangote Group, which is founded by Nigerian business magnate, Aliko Dangote.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KGIRS) has sealed Dangote Cement factory in Obajana, Kogi State.
