A superb performance from Leroy Sane propelled Bayern Munich to a 2-0 Champions League win at Inter Milan in their first group game on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Sane scored a first-half opener and the German\u2019s attempted pass was turned into his own net by Inter defender Danilo D\u2019Ambrosio in the second period.<\/span><\/p>\n Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann, who criticised his side\u2019s intensity after their 1-1 draw at Union Berlin last weekend, said his team \u201cshowed their desire\u201d to compete.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThe energy was good and the desire of everyone was very good,\u201d Nagelsmann told DAZN.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWe scored too few goals, but we deserved to win. We played quite maturely, but (the game) could have been decided earlier.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Bayern started furiously, with Thomas Mueller \u2014 the only survivor from Inter\u2019s 2-0 win over Bayern in the 2010 Champions League final in Madrid \u2014 forcing a fingertip save from home goalkeeper Andre Onana.<\/span><\/p>\n Sane broke the deadlock in the 25th minute when he controlled a long pass from Joshua Kimmich, before rounding Onana and rolling the ball into the net.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI saw the space and knew they were high and had gaps. Jo (Kimmich) saw me super well, that was a super ball from him,\u201d Sane said.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cUltimately, I just wanted to play a good game, have a good feeling and leave the field happy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Inter\u2019s German wing-back Robin Gosens lamented Sane\u2019s goal, saying: \u201cWe conceded from a long ball \u2014 that\u2019s exactly what we talked about before (the game).\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Inter started the second half the better of the two teams and almost equalised through D\u2019Ambrosio, but the Italian blazed a rushed shot over Manuel Neuer\u2019s crossbar.<\/span><\/p>\n Bayern began to turn the screw as the second half continued, with Sane and French forward Kingsley Coman combining in the penalty area.<\/span><\/p>\n Sane tried to square a pass to Sadio Mane, but D\u2019Ambrosio intervened, bundling the ball over the line.<\/span><\/p>\n Inter went close late on when Argentinian forward Joaquin Correa seized on an errant back-pass by Bayern centre-back Lucas Hernandez, but slid his shot just wide.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWe were up against a very intense, extraordinary side, one of the best in Europe right now,\u201d Inter coach Simone Inzaghi told Sky Sport Italia.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201c(We) had opportunities to get back into it, but you need a perfect performance against a side on this level and we didn\u2019t do that.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Bayern defender Matthijs de Ligt, who moved from Serie A side Juventus to Munich in the summer, said training is more intense in Germany.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cBoth training regimes are hard, but in Italy it\u2019s more about tactics and systems, less intensity and above all less sprinting.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n AFP<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" A superb performance from Leroy Sane propelled Bayern Munich to a 2-0 Champions League win at Inter Milan in their first group game on Wednesday.
