{"id":10307,"date":"2022-09-07T19:35:45","date_gmt":"2022-09-07T19:35:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/?p=10307"},"modified":"2022-09-07T19:39:45","modified_gmt":"2022-09-07T19:39:45","slug":"rb-leipzig-sack-coach-tedesco-after-shakhtar-thrashing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/?p=10307","title":{"rendered":"RB Leipzig Sack Coach Tedesco After Shakhtar Thrashing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Domenico Tedesco was fired by German side RB Leipzig on Wednesday, a day after a 4-1 home thrashing by Ukraine\u2019s Shakhtar Donetsk in their opening Champions League group match.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">It comes months after he led them to German Cup success but a dreadful start to their league campaign has yielded five points from five matches in the Bundesliga.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cRB Leipzig have parted company with Domenico Tedesco with immediate effect,\u201d the club tweeted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Even before Tuesday\u2019s humiliation, there were rumours that Leipzig had lined up former Borussia Dortmund coach Marco Rose.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Leipzig-born Rose won two Austrian titles with sister club Red Bull Salzburg.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Italy-born Tedesco, 36, only took over last December when Leipzig sacked American Jesse Marsch after a poor run of results which left them 11th in the table, seven points off Champions League qualification.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Tedesco turned their fortunes around, guiding them to a Champions League spot, the Europa League semi-finals and their maiden domestic trophy, beating Freiburg on penalties in the German Cup final.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">However, a 4-0 defeat away at Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday and the Shakhtar result proved to be the breaking point.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Leipzig, who spent big in the summer bringing in former Chelsea striker Timo Werner, had been tipped to challenge for the title.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff said on Wednesday the \u201cdecision to release Domenico Tedesco was very difficult for us.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe played a successful second half of the season with Domenico last year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe won our first major title with the DFB Cup and thus played the most successful season in our young club\u2019s history.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe came to the conclusion that we need new impetus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe regret that we are now parting ways and would like to expressly thank Domenico Tedesco and his team for a job well done.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">AFP<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Domenico Tedesco was fired by German side RB Leipzig on Wednesday, a day after a 4-1 home thrashing by Ukraine\u2019s Shakhtar Donetsk in their opening Champions League group match.
